Our specialised library has recently acquired two publications of the Sisi Museum. Both books were written by Olivia Lichtscheidl, the former curator, and Michael Wohlfart, the curator and Sisi expert of the museum.
Sisi – Woman and Empress (96 pages, paperback) was published in 2020. After the authors introduce Sisi as empress and queen, we can get to know more about her life prior to her marriage – e.g.: her parents and the description of their homes in Munich and Possenhof. The following chapters are about the four members of the imperial family who faced great hardship throughout their lives: Archduchess Sophie (Elisabeth’s mother-in-law), Elisabeth’s firstborn child Sophie who passed away at a young age, Crown Prince Rudolf and his daughter „Erzsi”. These are followed by the traditional thematical units of Elisabeth’s biographies: sport and beauty, journeys and a separate chapter dedicated to Corfu. The book also features unique personal belongings in connection with the topics of the chapters. For instance, the travelling toilet set or the travelling medicine chest of the Queen.
The most extraordinary artworks and personal items of the biggest Sisi-collection of the world are exhibited in the Royal Palace of Gödöllő from 8 September 2023 for 5 months, thanks to the recently opened exhibition this book is now available in our webshop. The language of the book is English. (The German version can be viewed and ordered by clicking on the Hungarian flag.)
