The Secret Past of The Royal Palace

Seasonal exhibition November 8th, 2018 - April 28th, 2019

The Secret Past of The Royal Palace

The Secret Past of The Royal Palace, 1950-1990

With the castle’s professional supervision, a group of students started work in the beginning of the summer.  They pledged to refurbish the 40 year legacy and compose an exhibition that their own generation could appreciate.

During the summer, the students became familiar with the buildings in the palace.  They attended restoration workshops and video trainings.  The students also spent time researching The Military History Museum’s archives and watched features filmed in the palace itself.  They also visited exhibitions and private collections along with personally working on ruin tours that heated their inspiration.

The three day camp in August gave the students a chance to work even more intensively on the project.  They took part in organizing exhibitions, creative writing, shooting advertisements and taking part in excavations of the era’s porcelain fragments.  The students had the opportunity to interview people who were eyewitnesses to the happenings of the palace from that time.  With the help of the local media, the students gained great interest and enthusiasm from the community for the project.  The locals invested their own stories and items from the palace to aid the students’ endeavors.

With the accumulation of these experiences, information and items, the students collectively decided upon the goal of the exhibition, it’s groups and themes.  The exhibition is presented through the eyes of a little boy, Misi, who in reality lived in the palace housing.  His secluded adventures in the palace are shared throughout the exhibition for all to enjoy.

The students were excited to arrange the rooms, installations and items for the exhibition themselves.  The most sensational parts of the project were the personal stories and interviews that are on display and can be viewed on the monitors.

The students and Palace worked together to present an open display in which personal accounts, stories and items can be continually included.

The seasonal exhibition can be viewed from November 8th, 2018 until April 28th, 2019 at the Royal Palace of Gödöllő.
