In order to enjoy the performances of actors here in Gödöllő too, the son of Count Antal Grassalkovich had his own theatre built where he could engage theatre companies when the family were staying here. The plays were often attended by members of the local aristocracy.
The walls were ornamented with beautiful paintings of columns, windows, and garlands of flowers.
A private, 24-piece orchestra accompanied the duke on his travels, for which a set of rooms and a rehearsal hall were provided on the Musicians’ Gangway in the wing opposite the theatre.
When the royal family moved in, the theatre was demolished and 15 rooms were constructed to provide enough space for the household.
